Caite Hamilton has been telling Charlottesville’s stories since 2007, when she started at C-VILLE as its part-time proofreader. Her passion for local journalism took root even earlier, watching her artist mother and goldsmith father build their own businesses from the ground up, benefitting from the power of good press. Her drive to do them justice has shaped her two-decade career telling the stories of journalists, activists, and entrepreneurs across the country, both online and in print. Now, as Editor-in-Chief of C-VILLE’s newspaper and suite of magazines, she continues that mission—lifting up the people who make this city what it is.
Day 24 and 25: Many apologies, bricksters
First, let Brick Watch explain. It’s not easy watching bricks. The eye strain alone is enough to send a person, and a brick-loving one at that, into a coma.
What your dreams of Obama say about you
What: “Dreams of Obama” Where: 211 W. Main St. When: Tuesday, January 20 The day itself was like a dream—maybe even that dream where you’re taking the oath of office in front of millions and you flub it—so why shouldn’t the evening end with dreams as a theme? After all, Barack Obama himself has penned […]
Day 23: Snow day equals slow day
Let’s talk snow, brick watchers. Even before Brick Watch was born, C-VILLE did a cover story on the Mall rebricking,
Is this your heel, boy?
Found in front of Eppie’s on the Downtown Mall, lonely and lodged between some bricks: One heel, slightly worn.
Day 17: Meet your neighborhood construction worker
Wonder who’s under (that rhymes!) those white hats? Here’s your chance to meet a member of Parham’s construction crew!
Their favorite things
Omnitech 1Gig Flash Drive “[It] has it all…looks, brains, and brawn. It has a capsule-like body with a soft rubber, black matte coating that makes it more fun than a flash drive should be to handle. The cap slides on and off with a reassuring glide and stop, no Swiss Army knife folding nonsense.”—Rob Tarbell, […]
Day 16: This land is your, our land
Brick Watch will be brief, as we’re all eagerly watching the inauguration.
Day 12: Bricky, it’s cold outside
It’s very cold outside. Construction crews are still stationed at the 200 blocks east and west, and at Central Place. And good news: The dust has cleared.
Day 11: Dust in me
Mornin’, bricksters! Whether it’s a good morning is a different topic. Brick Watch was set to get a cup of coffee before work today but was nearly deterred by a looming cloud of dust at the west 200 block.
