Aretha Franklin cancels her show at the Paramount Theater

When it was announced that Aretha Franklin had postponed a date earlier this month at the Paramount Theater, the postponement looked to be related to her son, who had been recently assaulted at a Detroit gas station. Almonst a month later, Franklin has cancelled tomorrow’s gig outright, which had been rescheduled for tomorrow night at the Paramount Theater, citing her own "health concerns." This from the Paramount:

  • "Ms. Franklin has asked that we issue an apology to her fans as she is unable to perform due to doctor’s instructions. Ticket refunds are available at the place of purchase."

Get well soon, Aretha!

Speaking of really famous people, local bestseller John Grisham’s new book The Confession is out today. It is said to be based upon his experiences serving on the board of the Innocence Project, a nonprofit that uses DNA evidence to free the wrongly convicted. The Washington Post ran a review yesterday that called it "a superb work of social criticism in the literary troublemaker tradition of Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle….Whatever your politics, don’t read this book if you just want to kick back in your recliner and relax."

Will you buy Grisham’s new one?
