Albemarle Supervisors selects Mallek, Snow, as chair and vice chair

Ann Mallek is the new chair of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors.

Just last week, Supervisor Ken Boyd withdrew his name from the race to give priority to his campaign for the Republican nomination in the Fifth Congressional District .

Because former Chairman David Slutzky was ousted by Republic Rodney Thomas in the November election, Boyd said in a statement that county residents had asked him to take the lead once again and become chair for the remainder of the term.

Boyd argued that the controversy that arose in the media about Mallek possibly being denied her turn as Chairman “has become an unnecessary distraction that is not in the best interest for County government and delays the hard work of getting Albemarle County open for business. It is for this and other reasons I have already mentioned that I am withdrawing my name for consideration for the job of chairman.”

Newly elected Supervisor Duane Snow, representing the Samuel Miller District, was selected as vice chair.
