Who wants ultra-fast internet? Both the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County, apparently. And count the University of Virginia in, too.
The city, county and UVA will submit a joint application to Google to be considered for a trial run of Google Fiber, the company’s high-speed broadband network. According to a press release, Google’s high-speed broadband networks will deliver speeds "more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today, over 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections."
Interested in strengthening the application? Albemarle County Community Relations Director Lee Catlin sent out an e-mail this afternoon featuring suggestions on how to bring Google Fiber here. Interested parties should get their thoughts together by March 22, so that the application may be submitted by Google’s March 26 deadline.
