Top jocks: UVA’s standout athletes of the 2011-2012 season

Emily Fraser, named UVA’s top female athlete of 2011-12, earned All-ACC honors for the second time in her career and was selected to compete in the NCAA singles and doubles competition for the second consecutive year. She has a career record of 102-54 in singles competition.

Steele Stanwick leads the nation in assists, is a finalist for the 2012 Tewaaraton Award, and was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year after being named the ACC Player of the Year in 2011. Stanwick is the first Virginia men’s lacrosse player to receive two ACC Player of the Year awards during a career and the team’s all-time points leader.

Mike Scott led his team to an NCAA Tournament bid and was named first-team All-ACC, only the second Cavaliers player since 1992 to receive that honor. He averaged 17.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game and led the conference in field goal percentage (57.3 percent).

Morgan Brian was the only freshman named to the NSCAA All-American first team this year. The central midfield player had 11 goals and eight assists during her rookie season and was also named the 2011 ACC Freshman of the Year and an All-ACC first team selection. She was one of 15 semifinalists for the Hermann Trophy, given annually to the nation’s top player.

Cam Johnson was selected in the seventh round of the NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers. Johnson appeared in 42 games, starting 34 times, during his four-year collegiate career, and finished with 130 tackles, 12.5 sacks, and 33.5 tackles for loss.

Jarmere Jenkins was named ACC Player of the Year, leading the No. 2-ranked Cavaliers to their sixth consecutive ACC Men’s Tennis Championship. Currently ranked No. 4 nationally in singles, Jenkins posted a 29-3 overall singles record this season, including a 16-1 mark at the No. 1 position in dual match play.
