Small Bites: This week's restaurant news

A hoppy little pub in Nelson
Todd Rath opened The Blue Toad, a family-friendly pub five miles south of 250 on Route 151, in October and has been serving up fun seven days a week since then. He sells hamburgers, hot dogs, finger foods, soft serve, and milkshakes from a walk-up window, and Irish-American pub fare with 70 choices of microbrews from the sit-down restaurant. There’s a playground outside for the kiddos. Breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays offer a Bloody Mary bar and all-you-can-eat pancakes. Starting in March, The Blue Toad will offer a nightly special in addition to its full menu. There’s live music on Saturdays, and Sundays spell southern comfort with specials like meatloaf, corned beef and cabbage, and southern fried steak. On Mondays, ladies can get martini-ed and manicured. Kids eat free on Tuesdays, and it’s prime rib on Wednesday nights. Deadliest Catch crab leg Thursdays started last week and during Lent, fish will be fried on Fridays.

One meal shared in unison

Participation is free, but advance sign-up is required at www.arthousecoop.com/projects/ themeal. Table for 3,418, please!

He’s packing his knives and coming
