John Anzivino, senior vice president of Springsted Incorporated, the firm that is helping the city with its city manager search told Council last Monday that 73 people responded to the city’s online survey. In addition, the firm received 122 personal comments and interviewed 19 local community leaders.
According to Anzivino, the firm has already received inquiries from potential applicants. But once the job description goes national, the recruitment process will take some time: 30 to 35 days to receive resumes and two to three weeks to screen them and bring Council 10 to 12 candidates to review. Council then will narrow it down to five to seven candidates to interview. There will be a public session at the end of the process. The salary range suggested by Springsted is $165,000 to $190,000, dependent upon experience and qualifications. When he retired, Gary O’Connell was earning $175,000 after 15 years as Charlottesville’s City Manager.
