The city police department is still looking for the person who shot three people in the early hours of September 9 while they sat in a car in the parking lot at 200 Water St. Zinele Brown, a 28-year-old Albemarle County resident; Jarret Jackson, a 20-year-old Charlottesville resident; and a 19-year-old male whose name hasn’t been released were all taken to the UVA Hospital for nonlife-threatening wounds. Each has since left the hospital.
The police have not made any arrests, though city spokesperson Ric Barrick says that the police have identified “several people of interest.” At least one of the victims, however, is not helping police in finding his attacker.

Jackson, who has been shot four times in the past two and a half years, has been uncooperative with police in their investigation of the shooting. According to a police press release, Jackson’s lack of cooperation “has seriously hindered the investigation” of his previous shootings. In fact, Jackson checked himself out of the hospital without being released. During the night, says Barrick, “he walked out of the hospital in his nightgown. He just doesn’t want to deal with the police.”
Barrick says police do not believe the shootings, which happened around 2:20am, were gang-related. According to Barrick, the shootings may have stemmed from a dispute in the nearby Club 216, a private dance club known for its late hours of operation.
“We believe the person that shot them, they knew each other, and that they had communication within the bar,” Barrick says.
Steve Smith of 1st Nations Mortgage Corporation, located across the street from the city parking lot, says the shootings are the first incidents of such magnitude. “It’s still safe to park, shop or just visit,” says Smith.
