At its Monday meeting, the Albemarle County Planning commission approved a preliminary site plan for Dunlora Forest, a 90-home housing development at the corner of Rio and Pen Park Roads.
The project is moving forward, but not without complications.
Due to county regulations that require two entrances for any project of over 50 units, the Board of Supervisors must approve a waiver that would allow the project to include only one entrance on Pen Park Road.
Many local residents also expressed concerns that the new development would further congest the roads in the area.
Anne Williams, who has been a River Run resident for 11 years, said many residents moved to the area for quiet and it seems now as though they’re trying to put the most number of people in the area with developments.
“You’re taking a beautiful place and you’re creating a traffic disaster,” she said.
Commissioner Linda Porterfield did not vote to approve the site plan because plans to address traffic congestion had not been submitted. However, the rest of the commission voted in favor, comfortable with the fact that VDOT will have to approve the single entrance.
The commission will need to approve a final site plan before construction can begin.
