Merle Haggard cancels Charlottesville Pavilion gig

A bit of bad news from the Charlottesville Pavilion:

  • "Merle Haggard will not be able to perform his shows scheduled for the remainder of this month including September 22 at the Charlottesville Pavilion.  All tickets will be refunded at point of purchase. This performance will not be rescheduled this season, however, we look forward to a future date when his health improves."

Reuters reported in 2008 that Haggard was not letting a bout with lung cancer "get in the way of his ambitious touring and recording plans." Let’s hope Haggard is well enough by December to receive a Kennedy Center Honor alongside Oprah Winfrey, Paul McCartney and Bill T. Jones.

The Black Keys, who rescheduled a concert after a death in the family, perform tonight at the Pavilion with the Whigs.

Haggard’s "Working Man." Feel better, Merle!
