No criminal charges against driver in death of bicyclist Matthew King

Less than a month after the death of UVA graduate student Matthew King, the City of Charlottesville announced today that it will not file criminal charges against the driver of the public works vehicle that King’s bicycle collided with.

According to a report, several witnesses traveling behind the waste water truck "stated that the bicyclist was passing cars on the right prior to, and as it entered into, the intersection." King, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, "was traveling at a considerably faster rate than the motor vehicles," says the report, compiled from interviews and scene reconstructions, as well as chemical testing of the truck driver, who had no drugs or alcohol in his system.
