Laurence Verga, GOP challenger, delivers handcuffs to Congressman Tom Perriello’s office

Just a few hours ago, we mentioned some of the noise surrounding Democratic Congressman Tom Perriello’s vote in support of health-care reform—one vote among 219 that pushed the legislation along to President Barack Obama’s desk. Laurence Verga, one of the seven GOP challengers campaigning for the chance to unseat Perriello, added his own critique of Perriello this afternoon. Along with a pair of handcuffs.

Verga linked a comment by Perriello pertaining to "pay-as-you-go" rules for government borrowing to what Verga refers to as "an unconstitutional Senate health care bill" (via the National Review) and added his own rhetorical flourish. Verga showed the cuffs to a group of 30 or so people gathered at the Charlottesville Pavilion around noon, then set off to deliver them to Perriello’s office. Photo below.

Verga and Perriello also caught the eye of New Yorker writer George Packer, who wrote that he’ll revisit the GOP race against Perriello this week.
