Call ’em belated gifts. Here are a few updates from the holly, jolly frontlines:
- Grinches are running rampant in Carmike Cinema! The Daily Progress noted this weekend that, one week after a "staticky amplifier" closed an opening night screening of James Cameron’s Avatar, a ceiling tile fell during the same film, possibly due to the weight of snow on the theater’s ceiling, and hit a young boy. Manager Lee Rebouche told the DP the boy was uninjured. There’s a joke here about Avatar breaking the fourth wall… Also, remember that another local theater lost heat a few weeks ago.
- The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review posted an interview with former local Bruce (not Boyd) Tinsley, who created the comic strip "Mallard Fillmore" while working for The Daily Progress. Tinsley offers his take on news stories of the year, and adds that his wife is "a little better looking than James Carville on a good day."
- And Matt Rohdie and Carpe Donut continue to get love on the street vendor beat (via USA Weekend). That one may be a bit more artisanal than art, but it’s the post-holiday letdown and, after a few severe homecooked meals, I’ve got food on the brain.
