Records compiled by the Virginia Public Access Project put Terry McAuliffe in the first-quarter fundraising lead among the four men vying for Governor. The Democratic contender, one of three Dems now in the race, raked in $4,215,777 between January 1 and March 31, 2009. Bob McDonnell, the lone Republican so far, raised $2,219,387 in that period. Brian Moran, a former Virginia Delegate, raised $807, 432 and Creigh Deeds, State Senator for the Charlottesville area who lost a tight race for Attorney General to McDonnell four years ago, raised $728, 812.
McAuliffe is no stranger to powerhouse fundraising, having operated in that capacity for the Democratic National Party as well as the presidential campaigns of Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton.
McAuliffe is the $4 Million Man for the first quarter of this year. He wants to be Virginia Governor.
