With a handful of excellent records under her belt and a new album, ¡Soy Saint George!, on the horizon, I was eager to get Devon Sproule into the C-VILLE office to record a Feedback Session. And, with characteristic charm and chutzpah, Sproule delivered one of the best Feedback sets yet.
In preparation for a short tour capped by a Valentine’s Day gig at Gravity Lounge ($10, 7:30pm), Sproule brought along Her In-Laws, the band that will join her onstage. And it’s a crack squad of rockers: Matt Curreri, brother of Sproule’s hubby Paul and a rocker in his own right, and Ray Suen, who records with Matt’s band, the Exfriends, and tours as a member of The Killers. (Yeah, those Killers.)
The gang came armed with enough instruments to give us unique takes on a few numbers, including Matt Curreri’s pop-flecked "Carrie’s Freckles" and Sproule’s "Old Virginia Block." One of the biggest surprises, however, was the electric menace of "One Eye Open," a song written by local Megan Huddleston. Watch for yourself below:
