Just a couple of days ago, City Sheriff Cornelia Johnson announced her retirement. Captain Mike Baird didn’t waste any time. Today, Baird, currently city deputy sheriff, called a press conference on the steps of the Charlottesville Circuit Court to announce his candidacy for city sheriff.
“I want to continue the legacy of Sheriff Johnson,” he told C-VILLE. “I helped make decisions in the office and now I want to be the final decision maker.”
Baird has 23 years of service and experience in the civil process and court security. He is a graduate of the United States Marshall Service Training Academy and was selected to participate in a leadership program through the Charlottesville Leadership Development Program.
“I support the community and I am dedicated to this office and the community,” he says. “I am ready to go.”
