Here at C-VILLE, we like us a yearbook. We don’t publish those hefty, dust-gathering tomes you’ve saved since high school, but we do have a tradition of assembling annual lists of notable locals (with photos, sans senior quotes). We like doing this because it makes us reflect on some of your deeper concepts.  Take last year’s yearbook, which zeroed in on the idea of power. Who’s powerful around here? What makes them so? Things got hot as we debated the relative importance of money and network.  This year, our topic is fame. And by “famous locals” we don’t mean John, Dave or Sissy. We mean folks who are doing their thing and doing it well—so well that, among their peers, they’re big names, even though you might not recognize them standing behind you in the post office line. They’re artisans and ultramarathoners, financiers and cardiologists. And in a certain way, in certain circles, they’re famous.  Compared to power, we found, fame is delightfully unpredictable. We like the idea that all these hotshots quietly lurk among us, here in our little town. Well, now the secret’s out. Meet 25 famous people you might never have heard of. And if you see them on the street, ask them to sign your yearbook.
