Your tax dollars, at work

Tim Hughes

Worked for the county for: 28 years

Resides in: Crozet

Job title: Athletics and program supervisor for the Department of Parks and Recreation. Hughes is in charge of all field scheduling and maintenance, along with the capital athletic field project to improve the area’s outdoor recreation facilities. You can catch him surveying the condition of the Albemarle County fields and inspecting the progress of a new field or a refurbishment.

Best of times: Seeing improvement in the athletic fields, the growth of local leagues and (personally) watching his three children play on the fields.

Worst of times: “Every year it is a struggle to find enough field space for everyone to play on.”

Strangest moments on the job: “To tell you the truth, I don’t know about any real strange moments other than the hectic part of my job when it comes to trying to find someone a spot to play or two teams showing up at one time—we always just try to be diplomatic about it and generally most of the folks are willing to work it out.”

If he were a superhero, he’d be: “Captain Planet. If I were him, then maybe I could make some more field space.”
