Your tax dollars, at work

Job title: Environmental compliance manager. She seeks to improve the relationship between county government and the environment.

Has worked for the city for:
Four years

Sarah Temple

Best of times: Benchmarks. “The best times are at the end of the year when you can look back and see real, measurable results, both with conservation efforts, and saving costs.”

Worst of times: Don’t say recession. “It is hard to have to do more with less resources in these difficult financial times.”

Strangest moment on the job: “I had to give a presentation to the Board of Supervisors last February, and I came down with the flu the night before. I had a 101-degree fever, chills, and was sweating, but you can’t just cancel a meeting with the Board. I was told my words made sense, but I’m pretty sure I was in a hallucinatory state.”

If she were a superhero, she’d be: Poison Ivy. “The purpose of her power is to protect the natural environment, and put a permanent end to pollution. She’s awesome.”
