Your tax dollars, at work

Worked for the county for: 16 years

Resides in: Albemarle County

Job title: Support staff for county executive’s office. Mullins assists with day-to-day operations for the county.

Best of times: “Working with this staff, the executives up here. They’re such good, honest people. They’re very supportive of me in my professional growth and are wonderful people to work with and for.”

Worst of times: “When we have difficult budget years, seeing how the folks here struggle to make it all work, balancing the budget while keeping services at a level where people are safe and happy. People don’t want taxes to go up, but they want their services to go up. It’s hard to strike that balance.”

Strangest moment on the job: “For the first 10 or 12 years I worked here, I was on the Albemarle County information line and there were some unusual questions that I would get. One girl called in looking for her fiancé, who hadn’t come home, and she didn’t know what to do, and she wanted help finding him.”

If she were a superhero, she’d be: “Flash. I could run around and get a lot more things done. On a busy day it’d be nice to, you know, zip zip zip zip, and everything would be done.”
