Below a video of Left & Right’s Feedback Session that was posted yesterday, I asked who else you’d like to see performing on video. The band’s drummer Zak Krone posted that he wanted to see a video of the local group Evenings, a musical act totally unknown to me, but whose excellent EP, called North Dorm, have all the clicks, samples and warm analog grit—think Aphex Twin’s "Windowlicker," if covered by the Postal Service—that make electronic music friendly for mass consumption.
So I contacted the band through a UVA e-mail address provided on its Bandcamp webpage. One Nathan Broaddus responded and said, "I really wanna play some shows once I get everything figured out."
Evenings has already erupted in the blogosphere and doesn’t need my help, but the music got me to thinking: How many people out there spend countless hours with MIDI controllers plugged into their laptops, or guitars plugged into their 4-tracks, composing small masterpieces that they, for whatever reason, don’t care to share with the community?
Here’s where I go out on a limb for an idea that may fall flat on its face:
Do you make music in secret? Do you have the urge to share it with the world, but only if you can do so anonymously? Here’s your chance. If I get enough contributions by next week, I’ll put together a mix of music, with "anonymous" in the artist bar, and upload it to Mediafire for all to hear.
Just send mp3s to andrew@C-VILLE.com, o shy ones.
