Once again, it appears that work on the Landmark Hotel, which is rising on the Downtown Mall, may come to a halt, at least temporarily. A construction worker, who asked to remain anonymous because he is not authorized to speak for the project, says that work on the hotel will be stalled for at least 60 days, citing engineering and design issues.
The project has hit a few snags, he says, including the height of the ceilings. He would not elaborate on the issue. Although the crew will stop working for the time being, the worker says, "It’s nothing major."
David Wright, project manager for Clancy & Theys Construction Company, referred calls to PR firm Payne Ross, but said that the company "is still involved with the project." According to Susan Payne, local attorney Steve Blaine is now the point person for the project.
Blaine did not immediately return a call for comment. C-VILLE will keep you up-to-date as information comes in.
This stoppage wouldn’t be the first snag for the Landmark Hotel project. On November 12, Clancy & Theys put $3.1 million worth of mechanic’s liens on the property, though the bills were satisfied by November 20, according to court records.
But in between, project owner Halsey Minor fueded publicly with Lee Danielson, who was referred to as the project’s developer, as well as Silverton Bank, which was funding the project through a subsidiary. Minor sacked Danielson in early December and said he was hiring a new development firm.—with additonal reporting by Will Goldsmith
