VQR named finalist for two National Magazine Awards

The Virginia Quarterly Review has long been a favorite read of local luminaries, and recently gained readership (and critical acclaim) nationally. Over the past five years, the lit mag has been nominated for 15 National Magazine Awards. This year will be no exception as VQR is a finalist in the General Excellence and Fiction categories.

"We’re very excited and honored by this year’s nominations," said VQR Editor Ted Genoways via press release. "Receiving this recognition is confirmation that we’re maintaining our overall excellence and continuing to publish literary work of the highest merit—difficult under any circumstances but especially now with tighter budgets."

In the press release, Genoways notes that this is VQR’s fifth year running with multiple nominations, putting them toe to toe with such publications as The New Yorker, New York magazine, GQ and National Geographic.
