Virginia Steamrolled by Miami in South Florida 52-17

Virginia got annihilated today in south Florida by the #16 Miami Hurricanes by the score of 52-17. Virginia gave up over 500 yards of offense in the contest. Marc Verica went the distance at quarterback, as he was in for the injured Jameel Sewell. The Hoos were an embarrassing 2-13 on third down conversions, and really were never in the game after the first quarter of play.

The Hoos were led by Rashawn Jackson who rushed 8 times for 77 yards and a touchdown. Marc Verica, who was clearly over-matched for the second season in a row by Miami, finished 11/29 for only 75 yards with 0 touchdowns, and one interception. Virginia’s leading receiver (Mack) only had 16 yards on the day. I have no earthly idea why the highly ineffective Verica was not pulled from the game for either Riko Smalls, or Vic Hall.

The Wahoos were plagued by mistakes on special teams today, and look for the boo birds to be out in force next week at home against Boston College. Virginia has now lost three straight games, and the sun has finally set on Al Groh’s career here in Charlottesville.
