Virginia’s Phil Gosselin got things going in the right direction as he homered to left-center in the first at bat of the game.
Starting pitcher Danny Hultzen pitched a strong eight innings as struck out nine and walked only one. Reliever Kevin Arico earned the save as he faced five batters, did not give up a run, and struck out two.
Right fielder Dan Grovatt hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning which put the Hoos up for good.
Virginia will play the Sooners tomorrow at 4 p.m. for the right to go back to Omaha for the second straight season. The game will be broadcast on ESPN and online at ESPN3.com. The game is sold out. Go Hoos!
