Virginia lost for the first time in 9 games as they fell to Wake Forest 69-57 in Winston-Salem, NC. Wake came out on fire as the Hoos could not hit the broad side of a barn in the first half.
In the first-half, Wake shot a blistering 52% from the field, grabbed 23 rebounds, and scored 7 second-chance points. Virginia was led in the first-stanza with only 4 points from second-year Sylven Landesberg. The Hoos shot an anemic 21%, with 14 rebounds and only one second-chance point.
Virginia did not give up, and actually looked pretty good in the last 10 minutes or so of the second half as they outscored Wake 42-35. Wake had three players finish with double-figure scoring, and was led by Ish Smith who added 21 on 7-10 shooting.
The Hoos also had three players finish in double-figures, and were led (per usual) by Sylven Landesberg who scored 14 of his 18 in the second-half. Virginia returns to action Thursday against the dreaded Hokies @ 7 p.m. on Thursday at the JPJ. Go Hoos!
