Last week, C-VILLE reported that UVA’s biggest tallest researcher on campus, Vice President for Research Thomas Skalak, was one of three candidates under consideration for the presidency of California Polytechnic State University. After a previously scratched search and a new crop of contenders, the California State University Board of Trustees picked its new president: Jeffrey Armstrong, dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Michigan State University, will take up his new post on February 1.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the chair of the presidential search committee praised Armstrong’s "outstanding academic credentials, leadership abilities and strong grounding in agriculture and science" as qualities that will guide CalPoly’s future. Skalak did not return requests for comment for C-VILLE’s initial story.
