UVA women and men polo win national championships

It was a great weekend for UVA Polo. The Virginia Polo Center, a student-run and independently funded organization, welcomed 14 teams to the National Intercollegiate Tournament last week.

Both UVA women’s and men’s polo won national championships. In the final, the women faced first-seed and undefeated Cornell.

With the help of Captain Cristina Fernandez, who scored nine goals, the UVA women beat Cornell 19-17.

As for the men, first-seed UVA faced two-time defending national champions Texas A&M. In the third period, UVA outscored the Texans 6 to 3, positioning themselves to win with a final score of 20-17.
