The UVA Jefferson Scholars Foundation has received a generous gift challenge of $500,000 to fund the John and Betsy Casteen Jefferson Scholarship.
The gift was made by foundation members Eli Tullis Paul Tudor Jones, and Lee and Elizabeth Ainslie to honor the UVA president’s 20 years with the University. They want to raise a $500,000 match.
The first Jefferson Scholars enrolled in the fall of 1981.
The Jefferson Scholars mission is to "identify, attract, and nurture individuals of extraordinary intellectual range and depth who possess the highest qualities of leadership, scholarship, and citizenship.”
Last year, the foundation planned to award fewer scholarships as a direct result of the substantial loss to the Foundation’s endowment.
