UVA announced yesterday that it is suspending classes on January 20 between 11am to 2pm, to give students the chance to watch "an educational moment that binds us as a nation and a people," in the words of Provost Tim Garson.
The John Paul Jones Arena will have live coverage of the swearing-in of Barack Obama. The JPJ, however, is not the only place where students, faculty and staff can watch the inauguration.
Six UVA libraries will broadcast the event and will have live coverage from 10am to 5pm:
– Harrison Institute/Small Special Collections
– Fiske Kimball Fine Arts
– Brown Science and Engineering
– Scholars’ Lab in Alderman
– The Alderman Library media wall
– Clemons
The Alumni Association has also decided to offer live coverage in the ballroom of the Alumni Hall starting at 11:30am.
Around Charlottesville, the Paramount Theater offers a big screen to view the inauguration, though tickets to the event sold out in only 35 minutes.
