- Reuters checks in with Tim McGraw, Red Light Management‘s premier country music client, who releases Southern Voices on October 20. Red Light founder Coran Capshaw shares his thoughts on McGraw, whose contract with the Curb Records label ends after this album. If Capshaw doesn’t bring him here in 2010, then there’s always a chance he’ll pick up McGraw for his own ATO Records, I suppose.
- Sasha Frere-Jones‘ latest column about "periodization" and hip-hop is a good read, and interesting fodder for anyone trying to sum up what, if anything, the unifying sounds and themes of modern hip-hop are. He also takes apart The Blueprint III in the process.

- A few videos of Saturday’s Metallica concert have already surfaced on YouTube, including this footage of the band rehearsing backstage at John Paul Jones Arena. "One" was a personal favorite, and announced the second half of the show with a few fireballs. Also, Metallica seems to be traveling with a film crew; below, good footage and audio of "Fuel":
