Thomas Gunn rocks the C-VILLE office

One of my favorite local songwriters, Thomas Gunn, paid the C-VILLE Weekly office a visit last week and brought his guitar. The results? Watch this space tomorrow. In the meantime, here’s a little teaser from what I like to call Feedback Sessions.

Check back tomorrow for Thomas Gunn’s Feedback Session.

Following Saturday night’s Bonnie "Prince" Billy concert (photos here), I split town for the rest of the weekend. And while I was sorry to miss Will Oldham’s second set—anyone catch it?—the drive was a good one for listening. I made it through The Smiths’ The Queen is Dead and Wilco’s Summerteeth heading north, and blew through Paul Simon’s Graceland a couple times on the way home.

Music in the car is all about approximating the rhythm of your vehicle with that of your listening experience. While there are no concrete rules, most musicians have offered suggestions through their tunes—for instance, listening to any song by Sammy Hagar while driving slower than 55 miles per hour seems ridiculous. What are your rules for listening to music in the car?

Though it has the world’s longest blog name, the site "What I Listened to on my Way to Work Today" is a pretty interesting look at one fellow’s audiomobile experiences. And, for a truly daring road experience, I suggest you check out Black Cab Sessions, in which London cab drivers host one-song gigs by surprisingly reputable musicians in the back of their cabs:
