Here’s my final post as a guy who has never seen Lady Gaga. (I’m going!)
- The Outback Lodge closed with more of a whimper than a bang, leaving lovers of extremely loud music out in the cold (and relative quiet). Deuces Lounge, the latest club at 917 Preston Avenue, probably isn’t the answer to their prayers. What it is, according to new owner Jerome Cherry, is "a lot cleaner" after a couple months’ worth of renovations, "and very secure." The lounge opens on Friday, September 10 with DJs playing R&B upstairs and downstairs, and continues with Motown and bebop nights, local music and "just about every sandwich there is." Check out Deuces’ website here; check back here tomorrow for another update after I have a look-see.
- The Black Keys have cancelled tomorrow night’s show at the Charlottesville Pavilion due to a death in the family. They’ve rescheduled for Tuesday, September 14. All tickets will be honored. See the Pavilion’s website for details.
- If you go to Sidetracks Music on Water Street to find that your favorite local music shop is no longer there, have no fear: Just walk about 15 yards east on Water Street to the store’s new location, where as of this morning much of the merchandise was still wrapped in display cases in a bigger and brighter space. And buy a record, why don’t you?
What else is up this week?
