The definition of “Ironic”

A few items of note before I head out to see Paul Curreri‘s set at Gravity Lounge:

1. On the strength of either the lingering success of Jagged Little Pill or her pretty amusing take on Black Eyed Peas’ "My Humps"—ah, who needs a reason?—Alanis Morissette will play the Charlottesville Pavilion on September 18. The show is the kick-off for the Red Light Management client’s autumn tour. Anybody think that’s ironic, too? Or just a coincidence?

Jagged little thrill: Alanis Morissette rocks out at the Charlottesville Pavilion, while I try to make her sign that album I bought when I was in sixth grade.

2. The Starr Hill Presents website lists former Satellite Ballroom manager and booking agent Danny Shea as contact for regional booking, a position Shea confirmed by phone.

Shea is potentially a very sexy feather for Starr Hill’s cap. I’ve always thought that it was Danny’s discerning taste and mixtaper’s feel for how to organize a schedule that made Satellite Ballroom a destination. If Starr Hill Presents knows its strengths, it’ll give Shea some leeway for booking bands, inside the region and out.

Which only leaves one question: What should we call the new venue? I vote for "Shea’s Stadium." Leave your names below.

FYI: Shea also booked the upcoming Bonnie "Prince" Billy show at Gravity Lounge independently. And, if you don’t have tickets for the August 9th show, nab ’em; it’s going to be spectacular. Check the video:

More this weekend. Come hang out at Curreri’s gig.
