![]() Best Place to Eat It While Mountain Biking: Observatory Hill and Walnut Creek Park (tie). |
Y’all couldn’t decide whether you liked Observatory Hill or Walnut Creek Park better for a place to self-punish atop a mountain bike. So, as we do with every big decision around here, we took it straight to the top. Our publisher, Frank Dubec, is a real live local biker who frequents both the spots in question. His assessment:
"O-Hill serves up RDA dirt helpings via:
— Endo’ing on a steep, rutted, washed-out shoot
— Undercommitting on the occasional man-made stunt
— Landing your front end on the inside of a double
— Collapsing from cardiac arrest while
attempting the ‘Powerline Climb’ for the third time OR puking mildly from heat exhaustion from said climb
— Waving to the five people you know while pumping through a rock garden"
"Walnut Creek, a.k.a. ‘The Nut,’ delivers its choice cuts via:
— Washing out your front wheel on some slick roots
— Hanging your bar on a sapling while slaloming down ‘Blazing Saddles’
— Oversteering on a switchback
— Bottoming out your fork while
attempting any one of the many log ramps
— Becoming a first-bite victim while avoiding a day hiker’s unleashed dog
— Trying to cross the mossy creek o’ death at any speed, even walking
— Nearly running over a squirrel
(seriously, it happens and it’s
hilarious)"
Just like you, we understood about 10 percent of Frank’s biker-talk. So we were all, "But which one is the best?" His answer? "Both places are rad."
Thus, dear readers, the tie shall stand. Get out there and do yer research for next year’s voting—in ’08, we want you to decide.
