![]() Nothing like a sportswriter to rile the student body into protest. Last week, ESPN.com’s Rick Reilly trashed the UVA athletic department for banning signs at sporting events (“This is un-American. This isn’t Havana.”) and counseled UVA students to bring blank signs to the September 6 football game against Richmond. During the second quarter of the lackluster gridiron action, the student section became a blank canvas of white paper. On Monday, "student journalist" Zack Rowen described the sign protest on an ESPN.com blog.
After tasting a few moments of rebellion, the students politely stowed their signs and presumably went back to grumbling about the UVA offense. The Cavaliers won 16-0, with the defense providing six of those points and little help from a sputtering running game. |
