More than 1,500 drivers were stopped at police sobriety checkpoints around Charlottesville on Saturday night.
Police arrested five for driving under the influence due to a blood alcohol level of over .05. However, drinking violations were not the only issues that police found. Eleven citations were given for expired licenses.
At the beginning of likely the most exciting event of the night, police noticed a vehicle abruptly turn into a driveway as it approached the "DUI Checkpoint" sign. During a search due to an improperly displayed registration, police found a large quantity of marijuana. The driver was charged with felony possession of narcotics with intent to distribute.
