It takes a village to raise a child, but only a single local photographer (and a few friends) to raise an enormous redwood on the Downtown Mall. In the October 2009 issue of National Geographic, editor-at-large and LOOK3 Co-Executive Director Nick Nichols photographed so-called "super trees" for a series on redwoods. [See the gallery here. To coincide with the release of the issue, one of Nichols’ photos will hang along the side of the Market Street parking garage, facing the Downtown Mall. The 36′ photo is one-tenth the size of the tree depicted, and was installed this morning; see photos of the process and scale the tree below:
