Perriello tours district for 24 hours, Hurt fundraises with McDonnell

With just over one week left in the campaign for the Fifth District congressional seat, a new poll shows Democratic incumbent Tom Perriello trailing Republican challenger Robert Hurt by only one point, with 46 percent of voters to Hurt’s 47 percent, well within the poll’s margin of error.

In the Benenson Strategy Group poll, conducted by the Perriello campaign, Independent candidate Jeffrey Clark won 3 percent of votes from roughly 40 voters, while 4 percent of those surveyed are still undecided.

And both candidates are pulling out one last-minute stunt.

Perriello, awake for more than nine hours at the time of this post, is in the middle of 24 hours of campaign stops around the district. After a 4am milking stint at dairy farm in Hurt’s hometown, Chatham, Perriello makes numerous stop at restaurants, a barbershop and a YMCA, and ends tonight in Charlottesville, where he’ll stop at the University of Virginia, the Downtown Mall and Wild Wings Café.

In the meantime, Hurt is also traveling the district, with stops in Danville and a fundraiser in Gretna tomorrow night with Governor Bob McDonnell.

Things are heating up, voters. How do you feel headed into the booth on November 2?
