Of cameras and cannabis

Downtown businesses were able to leverage fear from the "white t-shirt gang attacks" and push the city to move forward with plans for Downtown Mall cameras—despite the fact that none of the incidents happened there. The city has put out a request for proposals and has budgeted $300,000 for the surveillance, which city Police Chief Tim Longo says will help protect property and solve crimes.


Intent to distribute to your sick wife isn’t as bad as intent to distribute to stoner kids, at least by the logic of an Albemarle County judge.

The courts this week taught us that growing thousands of marijuana plants isn’t so bad—as long as you’re doing it for a sick wife. According to The Daily Progress, Gary Peck convinced Judge Robert O’Hara in Albemarle County Circuit Court that the pot was only for medicinal purposes, meant to help his wife, Cindy, who suffers from multiple sclerosis and irritable bowel syndrome. O’Hara sentenced Peck to five years in prison, with all of it suspended.
