CORAN CAPSHAW
Assessed Value: $99 million*
Acres: 1,352
Notable holdings: Tiverton Farm in Greenwood, the former ConAgra building in Crozet, former SNL building that is now Red Light Building on the Mall, the Jefferson Theater, and the undeveloped Coal Tower property.
Though his people make clear that Coran Capshaw does not himself own $99 million of local real estate, property records suggest that he has a financial stake in at least that much property.
A man of a certain celebrity, Capshaw manages the Dave Matthews Band, founded Musictoday, runs Red Light Management and was a co-founder of ATO Records. He has a discernible palate, too. He owns numerous restaurants around town, including Blue Light Grill, enoteca, Ten, Mas and Mono Loco.
Fun Fact: Historically, Capshaw has been into renovation and infill. “I think there’s a theme about smart reuse around town,” he told C-VILLE in 2004. Capshaw has consistently purchased and rehabilitated old warehouses, garages and office buildings, giving them, and the community, a new life.
*Though contacted, property owner did not verify list of holdings.
