A glowing Craig Littlepage officially introduced the new UVA football coach Mike London at a press conference this afternoon.
Littlepage said that the search for a new head coach focused on “how much football means” to friends of UVA locally, as well as nationally. Former University of Richmond football head coach London was chosen for his leadership, for his ability to compete nationally, and most importantly for all UVA fans, London was chosen because he showed “he could win.”
In fact, in two years, London led the Spiders to a 24-5 record. In 2008, London was named FCS National Coach of the Year.
London, who took a comfortable seat next to Littlepage, said that he is “blessed and honored” to be back at UVA. London is not stranger to UVA. He was a defensive coordinator in 2006 and 2007 for former head coach Al Groh.
At the press conference, London said that there are three major rules to the program: go to class, show class (“humility in victory”) and treat everyone with respect.
Because of his familiarity with the University and with the community, which he called “a special place,” London is looking forward meeting football fans, academics, administrators and residents.
“I can’t do this by myself,” he said, asking all interested parties to help him make the Cavaliers a winning team. Yet, London called his new appointment “a dream of mine."
“It’s a perfect fit for me,” said London.
