Albemarle County police are investigating the first county homicide of the year. At 4pm yesterday, police responded to the University Heights apartment complex, just off Ivy Road. They found a man who appeared to have been shot, and he was transported to UVA hospital, where he died of his injuries.
At least two others were injured in the incident, according to police. One man went to UVA hospital “by private vehicle” and is being treated for gunshot injuries. Police also located a juvenile with gunshot injuries and had him transported to UVA hospital for treatment.
Police haven’t released the names of the men involved or any description of the incident. They have been investigating a large area around the apartment complex, as well as the adjacent Shell gas station on Ivy Road.
NBC29 and The Daily Progress have accounts from eyewitnesses, who describe seeing the shot men in the parking lot of the complex. 29 mentions that two men were escorted off the scene in handcuffs.
The City of Charlottesville has had three homicides this year.
