Loose nuts lead to false FBI warning

On January 10, Dominion Virginia Power maintenance workers discovered that someone had loosened the nuts that lock in place two high-powered electrical towers, which are located in the West Leigh subdivision in western Albemarle. In no time, the county and the FBI had launched an investigation. According to county Lieutenant John Teixeira, the FBI is called in on a handful of cases a year, when it involves homeland security or if the county needs special assistance, usually in cases that involve technical equipment.

A week later, Dominion made another discovery: One of their own work crews had worked on the two towers but had apparently failed to inform their own company. “There was no vandalism,” says Teixeira. “Just a mistake by Dominion Power.” Now there is no more investigation.
