Longtime Albemarle County resident and former member of the County Planning Commission, Rodney Thomas, announced today to a crowd of supporters that he is running for the Board of Supervisors representing the Rio District.
“My main objective is to put common sense on the Board,” he said in a prepared statement. “The Supervisors have to be accountable to every action that is taken, and I will be accountable to you.”
Thomas, who was presented by the chairman of the Albemarle County GOP, told C-VILLE that fiscal responsibility will be one of his top priorities if elected. “I am a fiscal conservative, and I don’t think it’s a sin to be conservative,” he says. “I was taught not to spend all my money, but to put some money in the bank and that’s what we need to do in these tough times.”
In addition, Thomas wants to bring a renewed protection of property rights. “I will fight to protect our quality of life without sacrificing the rights of any property owner,” he says.
In November, Thomas will square off against current Board Chairman David Slutzky, who, just recently, announced his decision not to run against Republican Delegate Rob Bell.
In 1998, Rodney Thomas was named Small Business Person of the Year by the Charlottesville Albemarle Regional Chamber of Commerce.
