Steal away with me to the dark end of the street…for a few music-related announcements:
- This year, Labor Day marked what would’ve been the 48th birthday of LeRoi Moore, the Dave Matthews Band saxophonist who died little more than a year ago from complications following an ATV accident. On the date of Moore’s birthday, the LeRoi Moore Fund announced that it will award three scolarships at the start of the 2010-2011 school year, totaling an annual payment of $12,500 for four consecutive years. The scholarships include one award for an Albemarle High School graduate and another for a student at the University of Virginia School of Nursing.
- The Southern Café and Music Hall says "Psych!" No, we’re kidding. But a press release from manager Andy Gems says that the first weekend of shows at the venue formerly dubbed Gravity Lounge have been relocated to Fry’s Spring Beach Club. "Unfortunately, as much as we can’t wait to get the ball rolling, there’s still some dust that needs to settle," according to the press release. Hey, look on the bright side—the gigs are still happening! (And, on the brighter side, you Fry’s Spring residents can walk to the Jolie Holland and Ingrid Michaelson gigs!)
In other parts of the music universe, Ryan Adams wants to teach you about vinyl and make you feel bad about digital music, The Beatles taste the wrath of indie music critics, and I kinda miss the ’90s.
Courtney Love and Ryan Adams singing "The Dark End of the Street." See? I was going somewhere with that intro.
