Landmark hotel construction on hold

Despite some signs of life on the site this morning, construction has apparently been halted on the nine-story Landmark Hotel, according to The Daily Progress, pending a missed payment of $1.1 million.

Halsey Minor, the developer backing the project, tells the Progress that an Atlanta-based bank is to blame for the missing million. “I think ‘furious’ is the right word to describe how I’m feeling,” Minor told the Progress. “But we’ll find another bank.”

Work on the site had been rolling along at a quick clip since ground was broken in March, but Minor said it could be a while before he can find another bank willing to extend credit. He told the Progress that the project will be finished eventually and suggested that he’s taking the bank to court.

Workers on the site this morning would not speak to a reporter.

Minor was in the news earlier in the fall for a suit and countersuit with Sotheby’s, the auction house.
