Kaine announces agreement to preserve Civil War battlefield

Virginia Governor Tim Kaine announced this morning an agreement to preserve 200 acres of a Civil War battlefield in Fredericksburg, thanks to $12 million from state and private funds.

"Battlefields are our path to telling the story of our nation," said Kaine.

This agreement, however, does not include the plot of land where retail giant Wal-Mart is planning to build a big box. A six-member alliance called the Wilderness Battlefield Coalition is protesting the idea. Read last week’s cover story about the controversy.
