Jeanne Cox, longtime Charlottesville City Council clerk, retires

Jeanne Cox, longtime Clerk for City Council, will retire at the end of April after serving in the position for the past 27 years.

“It’s been a long, planned event,” she says.

Cox and her husband, Buz Cox, director of the Charlottesville Department of Social Services—who will retire at the end of March—will move to the bay in Lancaster County, “right by the water,” says Cox.

Asked about some of her accomplishments on the job that she takes pride in, Cox says, “Working the council members and the public through the years."

Cox says that City Council plans to find her successor before she leaves. "We are hoping to have some overlap," she says. Something the city knows a little about, as it readies Maurice Jones to serve as interim city manager while looking for a permanent replacement for outgoing manager Gary O’Connell.
