A fourth candidate for City Council has decided to enter the race as an independent. The Daily Progress reports that Andrew Williams, a State Farm employee and student at Piedmont Virginia Community College, said that a new perspective is needed in the city’s management.
“I believe that students and their families are somewhat underrepresented in the city,” the 22-year old told the Progress.
Because he will run as an independent, Williams must file a candidacy form and collect 125 signatures.
Three others are running for the Democratic nomination, including current councilors Dave Norris and Julian Taliaferro. Kristin Szakos, who spearheaded the local Obama campaign last year, is also running for the nomination.
